In my figurative oil paintings and photography there is often the focus on the relationship between human beings, animals and plants. In my paintings, poems and photographs I intend to express mysticism, beauty en threats (sometimes the powerlessness of animals). My own stray animals are a great source of inspiration and were used regularly as a model. Here is a picture of my cat, from a shelter, Merlijn. I simply want to express my love towards animals and nature, that's all...
As to the form I use certain light/dark atmospheres. In my monestic works I focus on the sacred atmosphere of these buildings which inspire me to a high degree. I have mainly got my further inspiration for these works in a monastery on the Belgian border, 'De Achelse Kluis', where I was allowed to take photographs of the monks within their own world. It was just fantastic to get to know them better! I have used these experiences and atmosphere as a source for my monastic paintings. The monks highly respect nature. They are very much aware of this. This also applies to me.
In my photography the human being fulfils an important role (frequently children). The field of tension originated from the world of experience of a child in this society appears on their faces. Time and again I experience this as extraordinary. Most certainly when I meet human beings and children from other cultures.
Just that one special photogenic moment in that one particular meeting, that gives me a huge power back! This exchange is powerful. And significant. Both for me as a human being, as for me as an artist.
There is copyright on all my works. If you want to publish them, either virtually or in print, do contact me first.
